Free Use (and Cost) Images
FEAR ME - corialis
Jotting down some stuff I heard for where I can get free images for use that wouldn't infringe upon any copyright laws. Look into:

Getty Images
Creative Commons (e.g. Flickr)
Internet Archive (which encompasses Moving Image Archive)
Library of Congress (whose Digital Collection might be of use)

Photo archive at Gimp-Savvy.com
Wikimedia Commons
public domain image resources
ArchNet - ArchNet is an international online community for architects, planners, urban designers, landscape architects, conservationists, and scholars, with a focus on Muslim cultures and civilisations.

Wikimedia Commons is often my first stop, especially for maps and pictures of buildings or historic figures.

I haven't heard of this--thank you!

Oh, this is *key* -- it's the picture gallery for Wikipedia, but there are a *lot* of images that haven't been linked to any article. And they've got things like 20,000 images of rock and mineral specimens, which have just been signed over to them by their creator.

It used to be that all US govt. images were copyright-free by definition, but I don't know what their status is these days.

Ooo, I just found this list. Looks *very* useful.

Omgoodness! That list...is a GEM. And the picture gallery for Wikipedia looks pretty awesome too! Such great resources. Thank yoooou!

*is going to have a photo heyday!*
